New York Fashion Week 2021

Fashion for Spring 2022:

Wow, it really happened in person!!  I'm sure that many were concerned whether there would be a New York Fashion Week during the continued pandemic but that didn't stop the designers nor the crowd. Dozens of designers were spread out all over Manhattan and Brooklyn with smaller crowds taking into consideration, social distancing. It's been a while since I've put pen to paper or shall I say fingers to keyboard in order to Blog, so it's good to be back!! So, speaking of designers, Tom Ford's show was filled with leisure, athletic wear dripping in bright neon color sequins like fuchsia, blue, orange for that woman whose ready to hit the streets and show off her flashy look.

Now, let's talk a little bit about Tory Burch's Spring  2022  runway show.  She decided to turn Mercer Street in front of her new store into a community block party on a Sunday morning.  Neighbors got a chance to experience her new boutique on the block, where shoppers are able to purchase one-of-a-kind homegoods that were hand picked by Tory herself along with other special offers.  Tory Burch wanted to give back to the community by celebrating within the community during the first in-person New York Fashion Week since the pandemic.  Attendees were given net bags and free rein over the various stands with fresh produce, potted plants, piles of magazines and, of course, food: coffee and avocado toast, candy and canned drinks.

Through her wear, Tory paid tribute to American designer Claire McCardell, the woman who pretty much invented american sportswear as we know it today; and these looks were then intertwined with Tory's artsy talent. The models strutted in easy flowing maxi dresses, that were cinched in at the waist, and sported loose legged pants all in an array of colors like red, blue and checkered hues, while sophisticatingly walking in flats and sandals across the cobblestones in Soho. Whew, what a mouthful....

The Carolina Herrera show took place in the new 89th Street outpost of Salon 94. The place boast high-ceilings and the riviting decor helped lay the foundation for the display of ballgowns the audience would see that evening. In keeping with the brand’s 40th anniversary celebrations and in anticipation of a post-pandemic reemergence, Wes Gordon made a showcase of Herrera’s trademark sense of occasion. The evening included a black-and-white striped duchesse satin strapless long dress, tuxedo re-interpretations, a full-skirted gown with voluminous sleeves in red silk taffeta, a myriad of print midi dresses, all reminding you of the designs from the founder's original house of fashion.

A few more youthful on trend items were the Bralettes and shorts that Gordon added to the mix. This was a common thread through-out many of the designers display of their Spring 2022 line during Fashion week. As the models graced the runway, you were also privy to some oversized beaded earrings and necklaces, large circular metal belt buckles, and even some glitter and sequins as added touches.

Well, this was just a snippet of what took place in the Big Apple during New York Fashion week.  I, like you, can't wait to see more of the Spring 2022 fashion trends displayed...I often like to leave you with a thought or a quote so I'll leave you with this, "If you want to be original, be ready to be copied" - Coco Chanel
